Style Remix: Your guide to Y2K

Writer: Prasheel Prasheel

The iconic remixes of vintage songs made popular by Harry Anand in the early to mid 2000s cemented a certain image about bold fashion in our pre teen minds and looking back now, the y2k style inspiration has been in front of us all along.

The Jeans craze ft. embellishments of a lifetime

Denim was at the epitome of its usage and boot-cut denim was given a spin with cotton textiles, metal embellishments, and ripping off at the thighs. The low rise or low waist was like a cherry on top (sort of)

Tank tops and tattoos

Tank Tops never fade away ever since they hit the screen. Just like corsets, Tank tops are examples of inner wear switched for outerwear. Make it your canvas by pairing it with the next item.

The Georgette Kurtis

We ran away from them but like the famous TikTok Nylon marble printed dresses, these kurtis with thread embroidery were often worn over the tank tops. For a vacation near beaches this fit would be perfect.

The sweetheart neckline tops

Before corset tops and the handkerchief tops, these tops certainly made a statement in bold and if it’s in Pink, it’s perfect!

Pink saves the Day

The pink color has been a symbol of femininity and today, Pink is rising to the occasion with its fresh appeal and cool-ness.

While we were embracing ‘70s and a little bit of ‘80s, ‘90s and Mid 2000s were linked in to make their comeback. Brands like Blumarine recently showcased their collection in the awe of the decade.

While it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the wild trends (the thong show, I am looking at you) which ruled this decade will have influences on clothing. y2k fashion depicts the growth of popular culture. Embrace this till we would be welcoming the 2015’s trend of Minimalism...again.

Until next time, share in the comments your y2k fashion story!
